My journey helping athletes mitigate concussion risk

Dr. Theo Versteegh is a physiotherapist with over 20 years of experience in sports medicine. He has worked clinically across Canada and internationally in the United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia.

He graduated from Western University in 1998 and completed his advanced manual therapy training in 2002 and became a full member of the International Federation Orthopaedic Manipulative Physiotherapists (IFOMPT).

In 2010, he completed his Master of Science in Physiotherapy. In 2011, after seeing Sidney Crosby suffer a concussion that kept him out of hockey for almost a year, he had an idea. He knew if Crosby’s neck was stronger, he would not have suffered such a devastating concussion.

From there, Theo started thinking about neck strengthening and the specificity of training principles. After developing a method of using centripetal force to train the neck muscles, he embarked on his Ph.D. to begin to research and test his training approach.

In 2016 he completed his Ph.D. in Physiotherapy at Western University and has been conducting primary research in the field of neck training and injury prevention ever since.

He currently resides in London, Ontario with his wife Angela and two young children.
